Trick or Treat @ Small Stories and Stuff

This is my take on Jenny's Saturday Centus prompt for the week. To read all the rules and join in, just click on the her link above. This week's prompt?
"Trick or treat!" they shouted as the door opened.

The old man, in black tie and tails, stooped over his Steinway, bony fingers floating over the keyboard. He played his favorite Chopin Etude, Opus 10, #4. It was Halloween, and he hated those little intruders.

The doorbell rang and Hazel shuffled to the door.

"Trick or treat!" they shouted as the door opened.

As they packed themselves into the foyer, the old man had an idea.

“Come in,” he said. “Have a seat on the sofa before Hazel dispenses the candy.”

“Here is your real treat.” He addressed the piano and played the etude, chuckling under his breath, “This will teach you little buggers to ring my bell.”

I guess he played a trick on them before they could get their treat LOL. Great take on this prompt. Loved it.

Now that's one "trick" that would have backfired on the old man. If he had started playing that, he wouldn't have been able to get me out of his house LOL Kat

Cute story! I wonder how long he would have their attention!

I love that the kids had to 'earn' their treat with listening to the performance! It is much better for them than the sugar.

I love this one. Hopefully, the kids will enjoy a little culture!

Well not knowing what Chopin Etude, Opus 10, #4 sounds like, or maybe I do and didn't know that's what it was, but I would be more apt to sit and listen. I love listening to someone playing the piano. So I guess my reaction would backfire.~Ames

Very creative . He must be a super piano player to play Chopin, and if I were the trick or treaters coming to his door I would relish to be entertained by him or am I missing something ? I'm sorry I have never heard Chopins Etude Opus 10 #4 either .

I'm just sensing if there were a part two to this story all the kids but one would leave and plan on TP'ing his house.

The single child that remained would sit entranced as the music wrapped around them.

What a wonderful conclusion to this weeks Saturday Centus.

Thank you so much for linking.

This was wonderful.
