Shattered Heart @ Small Stories and Stuff

This is my link to Saturday Centus, brain child of Jenny Matlock.  We usually have 100 words and to use with a prompt she gives us.  But this week, just because the weather is so hot, she has decided to allow us only 50 words.  (Thanks,Jenny).  To learn more about this great meme, just click on the button on my sidebar.  You will find some fine writing as well as links to Jenny's blogs.

Most people think "You are my Sunshine" is a happy love song, when, in truth, it is a sad love song.  Click on the video below and listen to the whole song as sung by the Soggy Bottom Boys!  Please hit the stop button when the music stops, or it will roll over to Johnny Cash and not restart The Soggy Bottom Boys. (I don't know why).

Shattered Heart

Heart shattered by your leaving
   I love you still.
Sunshine faded into night
   your face I see
through gloomy silent tears
   a moonlight mirage
aglow in the darkness.

Gone to another   you
stick to my heart
   a prickly reminder
of my loss   a sand spur
as sharp as any knife.

PS - Jenny, I read every post from last week, and I commented on all except one.

love the video. When I was working in daycare I had this little girl sing the first two verses of this song all the time. She sang it with such a sad expression thinking about her almost makes me cry. She moved away but whenever I hear this song, I hear her singing it

As I stated in my Centus Sat. post, this song was my little girl's very favorite. Her grandmother and I sang it to her all the time. We still love it....

When I hear this song now, I will forever rememeber Caylee Marie Anthony. Killed by her mommy and thrown out like common household garbage. It makes me very sad.~Ames

Excellent Job !
My favorite lines:
'my loss a sand spur
as sharp as any knife.'
Deep, painful and moving !

Awww I didn't realise it was a sad song, either.

I didn't realise you wrote under different names. I went to your blog earlier and posted a comment about your new radio for your car and wondered why I hadn't seen your centus.... LOL I'll never remember your names. lol

wow! great take on the prompt, and the entire song for that matter ... so much pain for such a few words.

As sad as it is, I really like the song. Thanks for the enlightenment. I had no idea it was a downer.
Be well, cj!

CJ, thanks for the comment on my post about SSI. Rod and I have been vacationing there and on Jekyll since we were children. We grew up in Atlanta, you know. There is a major overhaul going on at Jekyll with a new convention center being built, and all new shops going up. We were shocked and confused when we tried to get to our hotel.

We always have to eat at least once at Frederika House, and it was as good as it has always been.

We have thought many times about moving to SSI and came very close to buying a house on Great Oak Place several years ago.

I read your other blog, sister, but didn't leave a comment because I know the last thing you want right now is advice.

xoxo

Yes...My mom would sing me the 1st and 2nd verse when I was little. Even though a bit sorrowful, I always loved it for one of the pleasant childhood memories I have.

Dear cj,
Thank you for kind words about my SC-post. I decided to ditch John Tell for the time being and let Sanna's life look more like my own - I am trying to finish the move. Almost everything is moved to either the new apartment or to the rented storage room, because I just have too much stuff for this little apartment. My cat, Sara, has her own blog and has written from her feline point of view here:
P is for Presents - Sara Cat AT-rd-3-P

Great idea to play the video with the entire song. And for once it worked for me. I am not always able to play videos here.
This film was shown on Swedish television, so I have actually seen it. Very sad-funny well-made movie.

Best wishes & hugs,
Anna

You're right. I'd forgotten that the song has a sad feel to it when you listen to all the lyrics.

I like your poem. Great word choices.

=)

Good luck on the drawing CJ! This was fabulous. It is soooo sad and really balances the sacharine sweetness I think of generally with that song!

Lovely.
